Statement:

Andrew Alston has been in the networking industry for many years and has worked the length and breadth of the African continent to further the cause of better internet connectivity for the continent. He has been an active, vocal part of the community and has shown unrelenting commitment to ensuring good governance of Internet resources. With his 6 years' experience as chief technology officer of the South African academic network (TENET), which is still one of the largest users of IP resources on the continent, he has demonstrated both the skills and drive necessary to be an effective director.

It is our opinion that having Andrew on the board would be an asset to the community and to AfriNIC, and we would welcome his appointment to the position.

Having discussed the nomination with Andrew, he is prepared to accept the responsibilities that go with the position. We also support him in his manifesto of bringing more transparency, accountability and better corporate governance to the board and the organization for the benefit of the community. In addition, Andrew's knowledge of current internet policies and trends, coupled with his vast contact base in the industry through which he has the ability to gain perspective, will serve the organization well.

Andrew has also been actively involved in the development of African networks through the UbuntuNet Alliance and has been actively involved in adoption and use of IPv6.
