Latest developments in the region and best practice to be discussed at AfriNIC 13

20th – 26th November 2010, Johannesburg South Africa

Leading Internet players from across Africa will meet to discuss the latest developments in global best practice for managing Internet resources and the impact it has on the African region at the 13th bi-annual meeting of the African Network Information Centre (AfriNIC). A strong Internet function is a vital component in securing stable economic growth for the African region. AfriNIC-13 will take place from 20th - 26th November 2010 in Johannesburg South Africa.

Decision makers from the technical community, governments, regulators, civil society and existing AfriNIC members, as well as regular Internet users are encouraged to attend the meeting  and take part in vibrant policy discussions where these stakeholders can contribute to the development of management and distribution policies for Internet number resources.

The second AfriNIC government working group (AfGWG) meeting and a workshop for law enforcement agencies (LEAs) working in the Internet sphere will also be held on the 26th of November. The goal of these meetings is to further strengthen the existing relationship between governments and AfriNIC and showcase how AfriNIC as a regional Internet registry can support the work of LEAs.

Adiel Akplogan, CEO of AfriNIC comments, “It is vital that the African Internet community maximises the opportunity at these meetings to work together to ensure the future stability of the Internet in the region. Only through the cooperation of public and private sectors can we guarantee the continued growth of the Internet in Africa.”

AfriNIC 13 will also include tutorials, training, and presentations on sector relevant issues such as IPv6 planning, DNSSEC and Internet governance. AfriNIC-13 is taking place at Protea Hotel Balalaika, 20 Maude Street, Sandton, Johannesburg.
