::: Visa requirements in Mauritius :::

Warning : Passengers arriving without a visa (if required) may be repatriated to their country of origin or residence at the transporting carrier’s expenses.

Visa required except for:-

(a) Citizens of Mauritius,

(b) Persons who are residents of Mauritius under the Immigration Act,

(c) The spouse of a citizen of Mauritius,

(d) The child under the age of 14 years or step child or lawfully adopted child of persons referred to at (a) and (b) above,

(e) Holders of Diplomatic Passports other than those issued by the Government of Algeria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria,Yemen, and Afghanistan,

(f) Crew of a vessel travelling on duty or in transit to join another vessel,

(g) Holders of Laissez-Passer by the United Nations, SADC or other internationally recognised organisations,

(h) Persons who intend to remain in Mauritius only during the stay of a vessel by which they arrive and depart,

(e) Holders of Passports issued by the following countries:-

Antigua and Barbuda, Namibia, Australia, Nauru, Austria, Netherlands, Bahamas New Zealand, Bahrain Norway, Bardabos, Oman, Belgium, Papua, New Guinea, Belize, Portugal, Botswana, Qatar, Brunei, Darussalam, Samoa (Western), Canada, San Marino, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, Denmark, Seychelles, Dominica Sierra Leone, Finland Singapore, France, South Africa, Gambia Solomon Islands, Germany (United) Spain, Ghana, St Christopher, Nevis, Greece St Lucia, Grenada, St Vincent & Grenadines, Guyana, Sweden, Hong Kong Switzerland, Ireland, Tanzania, Israel, Tonga, Italy, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Tunisia, Japan, Turkey, Kenya, Tuvalu, Kiribati Uganda, Kuwait United Arab Emirates, Lesotho, United Kingdom, and Dependent territories, Liechtenstein, United States of America, Luxemburg, Vanuatu, Malawi, Vatican, Malaysia, Zambia, Maldives, Zimbabwe, Malta, Monaco, Mozambique.

(j) As from 01 October 2004, Nationals of the Republic of India, People’s Republic of China, Jordan and Lebanon visiting Mauritius for a period of stay up to fifteen (15) days do not require a visa to enter Mauritius provided they satisfy the following conditions:-

  - hold a valid passport
  - have a valid confirmed return ticket to travel back to their country of origin/residence
  - have confirmed booking for accommodation
  - have evidence of sufficient funds i.e. US$50 per day
  - are eligible to re-enter their country of origin/residence
  - do not engage in any gainful activities.

The abovementioned nationals should apply and obtain a visa before undertaking any travel to Mauritius for the following purpose:-

  - visitors coming for social and religious purposes
  - persons seeking employment, and
  - tourists wishing to spend more than fifteen days in Mauritius.

(k) As from 01 November 2004 visa requirements are waived in respect of nationals of the new Member States of the European Union namely:-

Czech Republic Republic of Latvia, Estonian Republic, Republic of Lithuania Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Hungary, Poland

(l) Holders of Passports of the following countries may be granted a visa of two weeks on arrival :-

Albania, Madagascar, Bulgaria, Romania, Comores Ex USSR**, Fiji

**Ex USSR which is now known as Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is now composed of :-

  - Republic of Armenia
  - Republic of Azerbaijan
  - Republic of Belarus
  - Republic of Kazakhstan
  - Republic of Kyrgystan
  - Republic of Moldova
  - The Russian Federation (Russia)
  - Republic of Tadjikistan
  - Turkmenistan
  - The Ukraine
  - Republic of Uzbekistan and also
  - Georgia

A visa for a maximum period of three months may be granted on arrival to nationals of :-

  - Argentina
  - Brazil
  - Chile
  - Paraguay

A visa of sixteen days may be granted on arrival to nationals of Republic of Korea.

:: TRANSIT VISA

A Transit Visa may be granted to a passenger travelling to a third country, provided he leaves by the first available connecting flight. If the transit exceeds 24 hours, visa should be obtained before travelling.


:: Requirements for Transit Passengers

  - Valid onward ticket
  - Departure confirmed
  - Adequate funds to meet the costs of transit, and
  - Eligible to enter onward destination.

National of Algeria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Yemen, Afghanistan and Liberia, should obtain a visa before travelling to Mauritius even on transit.
