Abstract - Internet on Business Agility

In the modern and fast paced world, information is the new oil. Organizations and businesses that efficiently collect, store, retrieve and present information for analysis and management decision making stay ahead of competition by increasing customer base and achieving customer satisfaction and value. Innovations in internet continues to make collection, storage and presentation of information reliable and cheaper at higher quality and quantity and impacting on productivity at levels surpassing comparable technological enablers (Electricity and the Combustion Engine)
This presentation will focus on the impact of the internet on productivity, growth and economic development by taking as examples case studies and research. It will look at how organizations can anticipate, adapt and respond to the complexity of the integrated global economy, competition and the ever changing technologies present and meet escalating expectations head-on to find success in a world that never sleeps.
It will summarize with suggestions and examples of developing the flexibility to embrace change and technology integration to thrive in a world where the rules keep changing every day by looking at competitive advantage success stories on the one hand and cases where lack of connection and intelligence resulted in huge inefficiencies and loss, e.g. 47,000 gallons burnt in a small business district looking for parking slots alone or only 22 percent of reserves being extracted from the worlds existing oil wells; other examples will come from the Global Financial Crisis, Energy geopolitics, Climate Changes and Global Supply Chains.
