Internet Governance and Development Seminar

African Network Information Center (AfriNIC) is pleased to invite you to attend the Internet Governance and Development Seminar organized in collaboration with the Agency of Regulation of Telecommunications and Stations (ARTP) of Senegal, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the Internet Society (ISOC), Kheweul, and other public and private sectors of telecommunications in Senegal.

 

The seminar is scheduled to take place 13-16 October, 2008, at the Meridien President Hotel, Dakar, Senegal. The objective of this seminar is to: increase awareness of issues affecting the future of the Internet in Africa and in West African countries particularly; identify how regulators and policy makers can help to increase participation of Africa in Internet governance debate; address challenges that may impact the success of Internet development in West Africa; and, to create a forum to exchange ideas and concerns among stake-holders of the African communities.


 

 

The Seminar will address the following topics:

  • Discussion on the role of Internet Governance and the impact on Internet development in Africa.
  • Overview of AfriNIC and related organizations: Mission and activities, critical role the development of the Internet in Africa; and the importance of transitioning from IPv4 to IPv6
  • Overview on the Domain Name Industry and its evolution: Internationalization of Domain Name (IDN), Domain Name Management challenges, progress, key players, initiatives, and opportunities.
  • Overview of Internet Exchange Points: Benefits, implementation, costs, and challenges.
  • Universal Access to the Internet: Benefits, implementation, costs, and challenges.
