The AfriNIC Government Working Group (AfGWG) - Law Enforcement Event

The African Network Information Center (AfriNIC) cordially invites you to attend the First AfriNIC - Government Working Group (AfGWG) & Law Enforcement Meeting to be held in Ebene Cyber City, Mauritius, 25 – 26 January 2010, at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel. AfriNIC, the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for Africa, has a mission to support Internet technology usage and development and to promote Internet self governance. This comprehensive agenda cannot be accomplished in isolation; rather, it will require engaging all sectors, especially, governments, policy makers, and regulators, in these efforts.

During the two-day roundtable, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about current challenges with Internet-related crimes;
  • Learn about steps being taken by law enforcement agencies, including the United States Department Of Justice, to address related issues;
  • Discuss the ways in which these challenges manifest in your respective countries, and potential efforts to combat such challenges;
  • Exchange ideas about the formation of a Internet Law Enforcement Working Group that will promote security by facilitating global cooperation and coordination;
  • Learn about Internet Governance as it relates to Cyber Crime and Security issues;
  • Understand the role of AfriNIC and its activities to maintain security and stability of the Internet;
  • Gain more insight into the Internet Ecosystem and its governance; and,
  • Learn how government agencies can participate in the policy development process to ensure their voices are heard regarding Internet protection issues.

The meeting will be a closed meeting by invitation only and reserved exclusively for government officials involved in Cyber Security Law Enforcement. The tentative agenda is attached and your input to this agenda is welcome.
